During a working visit to Volyn, Vitalii Bezghin (Vitaliy Bezgin), Minister for Communities, Territories and Internally Displaced Persons, together with members of parliament Viacheslav Rubliov and Serhii Kozyr, visited a dormitory at Lutsk National Technical University. It currently houses 113 internally displaced persons: students and teachers from Ukraine’s eastern regions. The institution has created dignified conditions for people, including modern accommodation, kitchens, shelters and an accessible environment.
Olena Fomina, a professor in the marketing department, came from Donetsk and has worked at the institution for a year. This is a crucial aspect of full integration: having housing, studying, working, using services and gradually becoming part of the local community.
“I thank the university leadership and the regional and city authorities for their joint effective work and proactive approach. This effective approach should become a nationwide practice,” Vitalii Bezghin emphasised.
The next steps are to involve the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Social Policy, regional military administrations, international partner institutions, local government representatives and educational institutions, and to develop a roadmap for scaling up this approach. Similar projects should not remain isolated success stories but become systematic policy across Ukraine’s regions, primarily in the western regions that currently host a significant number of internally displaced people.
