For several years, we have worked with Denmark on long-term support for the recovery and development of Ukrainian communities. Last year, this work was formalised as a separate programme — the Ukraine Transition Programme for 2025–2028.
Today it is Denmark’s largest development programme for a single country. Its budget is DKK 2.8 billion. Most importantly for us, it already means concrete projects for Ukrainian regions and communities.
Minregion Deputy Minister Artem Husak took part in a meeting of the Mykolaiv–Denmark Partnership Steering Committee, where participants discussed the programme’s implementation and next priorities.
“In working with international partners, it is important that support responds to the specific needs of regions and communities and becomes real projects on the ground. The Denmark–Mykolaiv region partnership has already shown how this can work in practice. It is important to continue this cooperation and use its experience in other regions as well,” said Deputy Minister Artem Husak.
The Mykolaiv region has a special place in this cooperation: 60% of the programme budget is allocated to the region and city. Funds support the recovery of critical and social infrastructure, water supply, improved energy efficiency and winter preparations.
One example is six major infrastructure projects being prepared by one programme partner for communities in the Mykolaiv region: Pervomaisk, Pivdennoukrainsk, Voznesensk, Nova Odesa, Bashtanka and Novyi Buh. They concern drinking water supply, wastewater treatment and improved energy efficiency of public buildings.
Other projects are also being prepared in the region, including the restoration of healthcare and education infrastructure, accessible conditions in schools and support for critical infrastructure. The Deputy Minister separately asked partners to support solutions for accommodating internally displaced people. We must be ready to respond quickly if this need grows.
At the same time, the programme’s scope extends well beyond the Mykolaiv region. Danish support covers economic recovery, resilience, the green transition and European integration reforms.
