Vitalii Bezghin, Minister for Communities, Territories and Internally Displaced Persons, joined Oleksandr Korniienko, Arsenii Pushkarenko, Vadym Halaichuk, Vitalii Bunechko, and representatives of communities and businesses to discuss regional development and opportunities for communities.
The Zhytomyr region already has concrete completed recovery projects, including projects under Estonia’s patronage. This is a good example of a partnership that delivers practical results.
We understand that domestic financial capacity will be limited during the war and in the first years after it ends. European programmes are therefore one of the main resources for community development. But communities must compete for this funding through the quality of their projects and their capacity to implement them.
Northern cooperation is also promising, particularly with the Baltic states. URC-2027 in Tallinn should offer Ukrainian communities a path to concrete partnerships and financing. The Zhytomyr region is already preparing: it has a portfolio of 50 projects.
“I thank the leadership of the Regional Military Administration and the communities of the Zhytomyr region for their resilience and daily work during the war. I am grateful to the international partners who have already joined the region’s reconstruction and are ready to continue. The participation of representatives from Estonia, Iceland and the European Parliament in the forum is an important signal of support,” said Vitalii Bezghin.
