Returning and restoring property rights
Returning and restoring property rights.
Ukrainian citizens who have returned from abroad can restore documents and formalise their property rights if these were lost, damaged or not properly registered.
What you need to do:
- Check ownership of real estate - obtain information from the State Register of Rights to Immovable Property.
- Register or restore ownership - contact a state registrar or notary if information about the property is missing from the register.
- Restore documents establishing ownership - if documents have been lost, contact the notary, the authority that issued them or the state archive, depending on the type of document.
- Record damage to or destruction of housing - submit an information notice through Diia or an Administrative Services Centre.
- Apply for compensation under the eRecovery programme - where the grounds provided for by law exist.
Important: returning from abroad does not deprive citizens of ownership of their property. If housing has been damaged or destroyed as a result of hostilities, the owner may apply for state compensation in accordance with the established conditions.
